Die Entstehung des Wort Whisky oder Whiskey
Whisky und Whiskey, beide Schreibweisen werden je nach Herstellungsland verwendet. So schreibt man in Schottland und Kanada Whisky, in den USA und Irland allerdings Whiskey. Die meisten Leute die von Whisky reden, meinen Scotch oder Bourbon. Dabei gibt es Whisky in noch so viel mehr Varianten.
Die bekanntesten Länder in denen Whisky produziert wird sind:
- Schottland, Irland, USA, Kanada und inzwischen auch Japan
- In Europa: Niederlande, Schweiz, Österreich, Frankreich, Schweden, England, Wales und Deutschland
- Im asiatischen Raum: Indien (weltgrößter Whisky Produzent), Laos, Thailand
- Und im Ozean: Australien und Neuseeland
Wichtige Whiskybegriffe
New Spirit: Als New Spirit oder New Make werden frische Destillate bezeichnet, die die Mindestanforderungen an Whisky noch nicht erfüllen.
Cask Strength (Fassstärke): Einem Whisky wurde vor der Abfüllung kein Wasser mehr zugesetzt.
Single Cask: Der Whisky stammt aus einem einzelnen Fass. Häufig werden die Flaschen fortlaufend nummeriert. Was für den Jahrgangswhisky gilt, ist umso stärker bei Einzelfassabfüllungen ausgeprägt.
Blended Malt Whisky: Der Whisky stammt aus den Fässern unterschiedlicher Brennereien und wurde vollständig aus gemälzter Gerste hergestellt.
Blended Whisky: Der Whisky ist immer eine Mischung von verschiedenen Destillaten aus gemälztem und ungemälztem Getreide
